Villa Le Blanc Menorca

First Net Zero hotel in Meliá

After months of work, we can say we are very proud to have participated in a milestone that will mark a before and after in the Meliá chain and a benchmark in the hotel sector.

It is the Net Zero hotel that the Meliá chain has opened in Menorca. It is the first member of The Leading Hotels of the World on the island. It is the reform of the old Sol Beach House, which has been led by the Cabinet Architecture A. Sanz, in total 159 rooms (14 are Premium category and 86 Supreme).

A hotel that combines luxury and sustainability as it incorporates the latest advances to minimize its environmental impact. The hotel is completely integrated with the environment and is respectful of it.

Our goal, to achieve an efficient and sustainable hotel

For Estel, the goal has been clear, to make a fully efficient hotel by applying the latest technologies that we have been perfecting in recent years, which allow us to reduce emissions of scope 1 and 2 by 87%, all this is a big step to implement and promote sustainable, responsible and quality tourism.

One of the most noteworthy novelties is that the hotel is carbon neutral, thanks to the incorporation of an efficient energy management system based on renewable energies such as biomass, solar energy and geothermal energy, allowing to walk towards hotel decarbonization and respect the biosphere of the place, resulting in a zero impact. All this has been implemented with home automation to promote low levels of consumption, both energy and water.

With regard to air-conditioning systems, the building uses sea water to cool the air, improving efficiency and achieving reductions in electricity consumption of up to 40%, a novel and totally sustainable system that is already being implemented in several Caribbean islands, a highly effective alternative to eradicate the use of fossil energy.

Circularity, a key point for waste management

All the residual part generated by the machinery will have a new use. We see a clear example with air conditioning, its waste heat will be used to preheat hot water for sanitary use, as well as heated swimming pools. On the other hand, the water from the backwashing will be used for the cleaning of the hotel, the rainwater for the irrigation of the gardens and the recovery of grey water will be used in the toilets.

At Estel we are very committed to this project philosophy and we perfect our techniques to improve the efficiency and sustainability of our facilities.
